Berry characterisation of cv shiraz according to position on the rachis

In this study, characterisation of the physical and compositional parameters of berries located in different positions on the rachis of Shiraz/R99 bunches was done. Berries were divided according to position on the rachis (apical, median and basal) and berry weight, resulting in four berry weight classes, averaging 0.86 g, 1.29 g, 1.74 g and 2.26 g and 0.74, 1.18, 1.59 and 2.09 cm3, respectively. The berries were analysed individually. The fresh weight of the berries comprised approximately 4% seeds, 20% skin and 76% flesh. Behaviour of the herbicide EL-107 in wheat and rape grown under controlled conditions

Summary The behaviour of 14C-EL-107 has been evaluated in winter wheat and rape, which are tolerant and susceptible, respectively, under field conditions. After 10- to 13-days’growth under controlled conditions, seedlings were allowed to absorb the herbicide through the roots. Two experiments were conducted to study the absorption and the metabolism of EL-107. Absorption was estimated during a 5-day treatment at the rate of 1–47 μM, and metabolism was studied after a 1-day treatment at 14.7 μM. Insect resistance to Bacillus thuringiensis insecticidal crystal proteins

Several insect species have developed resistance to insecticidal crystal proteins from Bacillus thuringiensis, either through laboratory selection, or under field conditions. In this chapter we review the current knowledge on the biochemical and genetic mechanisms of resistance to B. thuringiensis. This knowledge will be important in the design of appropriate tactics to manage the development of resistance in insect populations.
Leaf spray with Ti(IV) ascorbate improves the iron uptake and iron activity in Capsicum annuum L. plants

Leaves of paprika pepper (Capsicum annuum L., cv Negral) plants sprayed with Ti(IV)-ascorbate showed an important increase of iron and titanium concentrations, as well as of the activity of peroxidase and catalase enzymatic systems. Leaf-Ti increase is similar for both greenhouse and field crop experiments, but increases in leaf Fe are more marked in plants growing under field conditions.
Cardiorespiratory Responses Induced by Various Military Field Tasks

Typical military tasks include load carriage, digging, and lifting loads. To avoid accumulation of fatigue, it is important to know the energy expenditure of soldiers during such tasks. The purpose of this study was to measure cardiorespiratory responses during military tasks in field conditions. Unloaded (M1) and loaded (M2) marching, artillery field preparation (AFP), and digging of defensive positions (D) were monitored. 15 conscripts carried additional weight of military outfit (5.4 kg) during M1, AFP, and D and during M2 full combat gear (24.4 kg).
